Arda Turan

Arda Turan is a Turkish professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Spanish club FC Barcelona and Turkey national team. Club Career


Galatasaray is the most successful Turkish football club. Domestically, the club has won 20 Süper Lig titles, 17 Turkish Cups and 15 Turkish Super Cups. Internationally, it has won 2000 UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup becoming the first and only Turkish team to win a major UEFA competition.

Arda Turan made his official debut for Galatasaray against Bursaspor in a Turkish Cup match on 22 January, 2005. Then, he was loaned to another club Vestel Manisaspor because there was no chance of appearance in Galatasaray. In the half of the 2005-06 season, Turan made 15 appearances and scored two goals for Manisaspor.

Turan was recalled to Galatasaray for the start of the 2006-07 season. He helped Galatasaray qualify for the following season’s UEFA Champions League group stage. Turan scored seven goals in the second half of the 2007-08 season.

At the start of the 2009-10 season, Turan was appointed as the captain of Galatasaray and given squad shirt number 10. He guided the team to win six successive champions in leagues. Therefore, Galatasaray became a top club at that time.

In 2010-11 season, Turan played a few matches owing to his injuries. Nevertheless, his excellent and impressive performances in Galatasaray attracted attention from a Spanish club Atlético Madrid.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid officially announced that they had signed a contract with Arda Turan with a €12 million transfer fee in August 2011.

In 2011-12 season, Turan made his debut in La Liga on August 28th, 2011. He made his UEFA Europa League debut on September 15th, 2011. Turan was always the starting XI.

Turan was key in Atlético Madrid’s recent successes. In 2013-14 season, he together with Atletico Madrid won three trophies, La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España, and reached the final of UEFA Champions League.

In general, Arda Turan made 178 appearances, scored 22 goals and 32 assists.


Turan transferred to Barcelona in July, 2015. He came to Barça to bring his power and creativity.

He made his debut on 6 January 2016 for Barcelona in a match against Espanyol at Camp Nou. Turan played his first La Liga match for the club on 9 January 2016. The match ended 4-0, with Turan assisting Lionel Messi’s opening goal. He scored twice and helped the club win 2016 Supercopa de España. On 7 December 2016, Turan scored his first hat-trick during a Champions League group stage match. Accordingly, he became the sixth player in Barça history to score a hat-trick in the Champions League.

International Career

Arda Turan also plays for Turkey national team. The national team got the third place in 2008 UEFA European Championship.
