Gerard Pique

Regarded widely as one of the best centre-backs in the world, Gerard Pique is a professional Spanish football with character and strength. He plays for FC Barcelona and Spain national team. Early Life

Pique’s grandfather Amador Bernabeu is a former vice-president of Barcelona. Therefore, since he was a baby he has been involved with the club Barcelona. He often watched games of Barcelona at Camp Nou when he was young and influenced by the atmosphere and crazy fans, Pique became interested in football.

Club Career

Manchester United

Pique signed an officially professional contract with Manchester United in 2005 at the age of 18.

He finished his debut for the club in October 2004. And Pique made his full debut on 29 March 2006 against West Ham United, in a Premier League match at Old Trafford. However, he was loaned to Real Zaragoza in August 2006.

Real Zaragoza

Pique played an away match for Real Zaragoza against Villarreal CF on 24 September, 2006, which was the first time that he had played in La Liga. He scored one goal in that match.

To sum up, Pique appeared 22 times and scored two goals in La Liga in 2006. In addition, he appeared four times and scored one goal in matches of Copa del Rey this year.

On 5 May 2007, Pique returned to Manchester United for the following season. He scored the first goal for the club in the Champions League on 7 November 2007, which made Pique the 450th player to score at least one goal for the club. His second goal also came in the Champions League on 12 December 2007 and the club won Champions League.


Pique signed a four-year contract with Barcelona on 27 May 2008.

On 13 August 2008, Pique helped Barcelona defeated Polonia Warsaw in a qualifying game of UEFA Champions League. He finished his debut for Barcelona at Camp Nou.

In his first season with Barcelona, Pique had a total of 45 appearances. His ability won him plenty of admirers.

In his second year, Pique consolidated his reputation as one of the best central defenders. On 13 May 2009, he together with Barcelona won the title of Copa del Rey and three days later, the club won UEFA Champions League.

Pique played in the 2004 U17 European Championships, the 2006 U19 European Championships and the 2007 U-20 World Cup. On Friday 11, 2009, he made his international debut against England, and made his first official appearance in the Confederations Cup in South Africa, 2009. Pique became a key feature for Spain national team in 2010 World Cup.
